2015 Victoria International Kite Festival

We are so excited to be part of the Victoria Kite Festival once again this year!

Residents and visitors alike are in for a spectacular night show at Clover Point May 29th as the Victoria International Kite Festival opens at the venue with the annual “Kites with Lights” event set to begin at dusk.

“We anticipate a spectacular show” says festival Executive Director John Vickers. “Many of our audience survey’s last spring compared it to the Canada Day Fireworks and this year we anticipate many more kites of all shapes and sizes sporting LED lights in the night sky which are fastened on”.

While the traffic circle area of Clover Point will be roped off for professional flyers on Friday night, this year the public will also be encouraged to participate with the night event. The festival will offer inexpensive kites for sale with LED clip-on lights that can be attached and then flown in the upper field area.

The festival’s official opening is noon on Friday at the Bay Centre’s lower level centre court where America’s Got Talent top 12 participant Connor Doran will fly his kite in support of epilepsy awareness. Following the lit kite event on Friday evening, on Saturday and Sunday the festival presents a variety of activities at Clover Point from kid’s kiting making, special demonstrations by professional fliers, a general public fly zone, an international food village and more!

“I think kite flying is something many can relate too and to see so many children participate in all the fun last year was just terrific”, says Vickers. “The BC Kite Association ran out of kid’s kite making kits after 500 were assembled in 2014 and plans are to bring 800 children’s kits this year.”

Join us for a drive down along Dallas road and take in the view of all the spectacular kites on the horizon!
